Some random thought

So my mind was wandering today, and the following (perhaps a bit somber) came to mind:

The measure of a good life is one that doesn't need any measuring. which led to The mark of a man who has lived a good life is one who doesn't need any markings. Basically the same, but one's shorter :D

On a brighter note, look who I found :D

[Edit]
While we're talking about computer graphics, a friend of mine has been trying to convince me of the awesome power of the next gen consoles. I wasn't too impressed with FF7 Technical Demo for PS3, but actually the trailer for DOA4 for Xbox 360 was decent (again, I wasn't that impressed with the in game video/physics.) I just wished they focused more on collision detection as I'm tired of freaking hair and clothing or whatnot going through each other. Hrmmm, I wonder if the monkeys can enter the game and jump on ppl's head...

唱什麼?

I recently came across some chinese songs and I couldn't figure out wtf they were singing. Well, good news is that if it's popular enough, you might find both english and chinese lyrics here: Englishlyric. Finally I know what the hell I've been listening to all this time :P

A Turtle in a Rabbit's World

As a grad student, I'm supposed to have lots of time on my hands (which I will waste without a doubt). Today, I wasted my evening chatting, watching TV/playing poker (damn you PartyPoker) and watching stuff like this: Asian dudes singing Backstreet Boys. I don't know why my friend sent that link to me, but I'll do the same and share it with you, in hopes that you too, will be sidetracked.

What hard core gamer...

I just read this and laughed - pffft, 20 hours a month = hard core gamer??? what a joke!

"so-called hard-core online gamers -- people who play for 20 hours or more a month -- now make up about a third of the gaming community."

Hrmmm, since I'm on the topic of games, I'll write this here. I just finished watching Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, and it was actually pretty good. I was kind of weary of it since I didn't know what they could do in a well known Final Fantasy universe (and the world in Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within setting doesn't really count as a FF universe). Anyway, it appears they've taken a step back from realistic physics and took to the cartoon physics of Toy Story/Monster's Inc (the jumpy/jerky motion if you don't understand what I'm talking about). I felt this was a good idea because while the graphics and details were awesome, they still had a CG aura. It was basically like watching a 1.5hr FMV - and FF fans typically enjoy their FMVs :D The one main thing that I found annoying, which could be considered big, was that there were some quite noticeably awkward change of pace, either by a change in music or cutting to another scene. However, the movie was pretty fast paced, so it's forgiven (and I admit I might be biased as it's FF :D) The fight scenes were actually pretty neat. I've gotta say, if I'm to be beaten up by a girl, oh please, PLEASE, let it be by Tifa!

Flight

Although this isn't exactly your typical fight or flight scenerio, with all of the things happening as of late, I found that my typical response to stress is flight, or simply, denial, such as by making jokes out of it or focusing on something else, anything to push it away. Seeing how other people respond to various problems I know they're facing, I can't help but admire their attitude and strength. I cannot fully grasp what they must be feeling. I mean, most people do not talk about their problems, so really, who knows what else they're dealing with. Props to them. If it were me, all I'd be saying would be fuck off. Heh, I guess it doesn't really help that I have trouble letting things go once I start to think about them, so it's an endless cycle for me that just keeps on building. Man I've gotta learn how to deal. Having time to think about one's problems prolly made it worse. This summer I did nothing, yet it was prolly the most stressful one I've ever had. Now that I look at how I respond to problems, I realize I've gotta change, or I'm gonna get an ulcer or something by the time I'm 30 :D (see, I joked about it again) I won't bore you with details, but for starters, I know one thing that I've gotta do is to not let go of people who are good for me. Should be easy, yet for me it's surprisingly hard.

Double You Tea Eff

I got around to visiting some blogs I haven't checked recently and found yet another geek test. I don't usually do these tests, but since I was willing to do anything other than read, the following's my result. A bit funny though, considering it says "Maybe you're interested in computers but not a gamer? Maybe you've got geek hobbies but none of the awkward social tendencies." Wow, I'm sure many would object to that, heh.

The Simple Geek
You answered 67% of the questions as a geek truly would.

You don't seem to sway in either direction, however you still seem to
have some latent geek attributes within you. Maybe you're interested in
computers but not a gamer? Maybe you've got geek hobbies but none of
the awkward social tendencies. You may be slightly geekier than you
thought and in denial!

The simple geek usually has various quirks that friends may make
fun of, but in general can be considered a fairly normal person. Your
geek attributes make you less likely to conform to society. The popular
kids don't hate you but the geeks don't either, so it's a respectable
demographic.

In a nutshell, you answered enough questions with geek tendencies
and enough questions without geek tendencies that it's difficult to
pinpoint your exact alignment.
